Securing the Shadow
The participatory art program, Securing the Shadow, was designed to offer various art-making activities as a means to facilitate dialogues and to share stories of formerly incarcerated women. MSH residents were engaged with different forms of art-making activities, such as collage, painting, printmaking, and quilting throughout six consecutive sessions. Instead of focusing on learning techniques or art form itself, we emphasized the story-telling aspect of art-making, especially how sharing stories through art can be empowering for those whose voices are often silenced in our society. The workshops were collaboratively developed with faculty members from Social Work and Occupational Therapy.
